Earth Hour 2009

Earth Hour Campaign is a global event organized by WWF and is held on the last Saturday of March annually, asking households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lightings and other electrical appliances for one hour to raise awareness towards the need to take action on climate change. It was started in Sydney, Australia, in year 2007. A total of 2.2 million homes and businesses turned off their lights for one whole hour. Only a year later this event had obtained a global sustainability movement’s support with up to 100 million people across 35 countries participating.
In conjunction with Earth Hour Malaysia 2009 on 28th March 2009, Dataran Pahlawan Melaka Megamall showed our support by turning off unnecessary lightings such as decorative lights from 8.30pm to 9.30pm.
Dataran Pahlawan’s management encouraged its tenant to also participate in this event by turning off their decorative lights inside or outside their shops. This campaign unites us to create awareness on the climate change.
