A Better Tomorrow Starts With Us
This is a particularly relevant topic for Malaysians as our national culture revolves around food. For us, food is not just for sustenance, it is our social identity; our food defines us!
Yes, we Malaysians definitely love our food… but records state that we waste 930 tonnes of food EVERY DAY! Meanwhile, more than 20,000 children under the age of 5 die daily from hunger =(
Now’s the time to seriously consider our food habits. Let’s stop wasting precious food. It only takes a small change in mindset to make a big difference!
On a separate note, there are Malaysians who do appreciate the value of food. Catering to the homeless and urban poor in the bustling district of Klang Valley, a humanitarian organization called the Kechara Soup Kitchen (KSK) distributes approximately 1,800 packs of food daily to the needy.
With their motto “Hunger Knows no Barriers”, KSK is strictly non-religious and does not discriminate in terms of race or culture. For this reason, their food is always vegetarian.
Led by H. E. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche, KSK is a platform for all caring Malaysians to come together to help our fellow Malaysians using the best way we know how… with FOOD.
So today, in awareness of the value of food, Hatten Cares challenges you to think before you eat and help save our food resources and environment!
Together, let’s try to achieve zero food wastage!
