Enriching Communities Together

MCO Initiatives by Kechara Soup Kitchen

April 2020 : Kechara Soup Kitchen (KSK) is a non-profit organization that operates in Malaysia. Hatten is honorably the main sponsor for their Melaka branch.

Throughout the Government’s implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO), our partners from KSK have been actively on the move, picking up surplus food supplies and distributing them to those in need.

Despite almost everyone being impacted by the effects of the global pandemic, the lower and middle class community which are known in Malaysia as the B40 and M40 group were at the top of the list for being intensely hit, and found themselves filled with uncertainty and anxiousness.

The B40 group which is normally our priority in most of our CSR Soup Kitchen projects, comprises of various individuals and families. Many of these individuals are lonely or socially isolated senior citizens, and some are sadly neglected and left to fend for themselves.

Others are families struggling financially and living poorly with many young and schooling children within a single family. Many of these families are also single parent households where the other parent has passed on are no longer a part of the family for different reasons.

Alas, just when we thought we have seen the worst of struggling lives, we come across some who are in some way physically or mentally disabled, or ill in health and bed ridden.

It is truly heartbreaking when you walk into the worlds of these struggling individuals and families and see their pain. We are thankful that we are able to contribute some care packages to all of them, most especially during these tough times when the world is battling an unseen enemy.

Our volunteers are continuously working to complete cycles of collecting surplus food supplies from partnering supermarkets, hotels and others, and distributing them accordingly to ensure we help as many as possible. We are always welcoming more partners into our program. On our own, we cannot do everything, but together we can do something.
